A Ministry of Encouragement

The Friends of Barnabas was started to assist people in career transition.  We believe that people can help and encourage each other through the typically lonely and frustrating job search process.  After all, if most good jobs are found by networking, then it stands to reason that YOUR NEXT JOB will be found through a contact or network of people.  Let us help you find that next opportunity, and encourage you aloing the way!  Blessings from FOB.

Let Friends of Barnabas help you meet others who are willing to share job leads and contacts.  FOB will also provide scripturally based encouragemment as you go through the job search process.  There is no reason to go it alone.

The Friends of Barnabas ministry has four (4) dimensions that we try to address.

  1. Encouragement - we know this is a lonely process.  Don't go through it alone.  Let us walk with you, give you leads and teach you how to more effectively market yourself.
  2. Education - through the Career Transition Workshops we teach you how to more effewctively present yourself as a solution to the employer's problems.
  3. Employer network - we introduce people to employers for free.  That puts the ministry candidates at the top of every employer's list.
  4. Entrepreneurial Support - we are developing an entrepreneurs boot camp program to help people start their own businesses.  We expect to offer the first flight of sessions in late 2007.

What about Networking?

Over 80% of the jobs in the market are never advertised.  True or False?
Most jobs are found by networking.  True or false?

That is why you MUST learn how to NETWORK and meet the people who can help you find that next job!

NETWORKING ...

They DON'T teach it in school... not even in college.  You might have learned some of the skills when you went away to college or went off to summer camp, but you probably had no idea WHAT you were learning to do, or WHY it was important.

Someone who tries to network before they understand what it is, what it isn't, and how to do it effectively can become a "pest" to their friends and colleagues.  When you learn how to do it correctly, you enhance these relationships, you don't destroy them.  That is why networking is a very important life skill.  The Friends of Barnabas can help you master this skill.
